recap: long weekend

sorry to bore you all with another memorial day weekend recap.  it sounds like everyone had a really great long weekend and i did too.  here are a couple highlights:

every year my mom and i go and buy our flowers.  this year my mom had shoulder surgery and isn't able to plant or water this summer.  she said she would go with my to buy mine but i'd been procrastinating.  i was telling this to my aunt (AM) and she offered to go buy them for me.  needless to say i jumped on the offer.  AM loves to plant flowers and i knew i'd be in good hands.  a few frantic emails and texts later she had my whole budget spent.  she also dropped them off at my house.  she did not offer to plant and water them.  i guess nothing is perfect.  this weekend was way too darn hot to plant so i'm putting it out there that all the flowers you see above will be planted this weekend.  see that empty purple pot?  it will have those pretty petunias in it by midnight on sunday.

this picture is a little blurry but i feel a little awkward taking pictures of my food in public.  so, i've been seeing menchie's on food blogs for what seems like forever and been so jealous.  one day king louie and i were leaving costco (i could do a whole post on how much i love costco) and there it was.  it was like the clouds parted and a light shined down from heaven.  we had a menchie's and a 95 degree memorial day weekend seemed like the perfect time to try it out.  kind louie and i picked up my sister (sissy) and brother in law (bill) and we were on our way.  it was everything i hoped it would be.  the vast number of flavors was a little overwhelming but i calmed down once i tried the praline pecan.  i swooned.  i had no problem with the toppings.  carmel cups, malted milk balls, heath, peanut butter cup, brownie bites, cookie dough bites, cocoa pebbles and caramel.  it was well worth the wait.  we had a great time catching up on sissy and bill's vacation and they even paid for us because we took them to the airport.

monday we had to crank up the grill.  well at least we tried.  the gas line wasn't working right.  a little elbow grease and a few bad words later we got it lit.  our grill is actually pretty cool.  it uses gas and coals.  it heats up fast with the gas and you still get the charcoal taste.  we cooked up some burgers.  they're naked in this picture.  fear not, we added cheese a little later.  the corn gave us a run for our money because by the time we peeled them back one of them had rotted.  i offered to go without but king louie saved the day and ran to the store.  we also grilled up some zucchini and red pepper.  it was the perfect meal to kick off the summer.  i hope to grill more over the next few months.

what do you all like to grill out?  i'm always looking for new ways to use my grill.

so, there you have it.  a few highlights of a wonderful weekend!
